My name is Marcia Jácome and I am 29 years old. I am from Guatemala and I live in California. At 17, I became a single mother. My mother and I decided to immigrate to the United States seeking a better future and, upon arrival, I found a different culture, with different traditions and food. I couldn't find work and sought refuge in food. While out job hunting, I ate anything, like burgers and fries, and when I got home, my mother greeted me with her handmade tortillas. Because of these unhealthy habits, I weighted 170 pounds and was a size extra-large. I received bad comments from my friends and family, which made me feel so sad and bad about myself.
